McCarthy sets the pace as Brisbane go top of AFLW ladder

Kate McCarthy has kicked 2 goals, including a 5 bounce Goal of the Year contender, today against Collingwood at the South Pine Sports Complex. In front of a crowd of close to 5,500 the Lions controlled the game in the first half before a third quarter surge from the Pies brought them to with striking distance. Before the second of McCarthy's two goals broke open the game against the flow and gave the Lions a lead that proved too much for the Collingwood outfit.

The Lions defence lead by Sam Virgo was yet again a highlight of their performance and proved to be too good, nullifying Collingwood's dominance around the stoppages with strong intercept marks and run off half back. Emily Bates had another strong performance with 11 disposals and still sits at the top of the Lions list for disposals for the season so far.

All three Devils that played for the Lions today were named in the best and continue to have a huge impact on a side that now sits atop the AFLW ladder. They will be joined by either the Adelaide Crows or the Carlton Blues after their match tomorrow. The AFL Match Report can be found below.

Brisbane's next match is on Saturday February 25 at 3:35pm AEST at South Pine Sports Complex against the GWS Giants. If you can't get down to support the girls in person you can watch this game on Fox Sports 3(Channel 503) or stream it free at www.afl.com.au.
